No Pixar movie has ever been a flop, but these ones rise above the rest

Who’s got the popcorn?! Because we’ve got a few (okay, 10) suggestions for movie night that are universal crowd-pleasers. No other studio except Pixar Animation could serve movies that almost no one will complain about (except maybe that one friend who complains about everything…why do you even hang out with that guy?).

Pixar’s movies are smart, funny, and highly engaging, but you don’t have to take our word for it. They’re so amazing at what they do that Disney bought them. Heck, don’t take Disney’s word for it either: the people have voted, and fourteen of Pixar’s movies are amid the top 50 highest-grossest animated films. Of. All. Time. Can you spot the Pizza Planet truck in our definitive list of top 10 Pixar movies?

10. Cars

Don’t get us wrong, Cars is still a great movie, but it did get the lowest score out of any Pixar film on most movie rating websites. We’re by no means scraping the bottom of the barrel here, it’s still really, really good — just not as perfect as the rest of their movies. Cars is charming, has its heart in the right place, and teaches us the value of humility — even when you’re great at the things you do. Don’t be discouraged about Cars placing tenth, we all learned from Doc that life is about the journey, not finishing first.

9. The Incredibles

It’s sooooo good! We can’t get enough of this action-packed movie the whole crew can enjoy; from adult ennui to childhood superhero fantasies, all bases are covered. There’s a ton of action-packed adventures featuring the whole Incredible family. To quote Bob Parr, “they keep finding new ways to celebrate mediocrity;” but this movie is anything but mediocre. Best enjoyed sans cape and with a big bucket of popcorn.

8. Monsters, Inc.

Monsters, Inc is downright charming, smart and inventive! “Scary” monsters James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski must work together to return a little girl nicknamed Boo to her world while foiling the evil plot of their dastardly coworker. Except not all is as it screams (see what we did there?). The vocal cast of this Pixar movie is spot on perfect, too. Sit back and enjoy as Sully and Mike find a way out of their world and into our hearts.

7. Coco

This movie is filled with family, magic, color and did we say, family? Coco is chock full of plot twists that even the most jaded viewer won’t see coming. Take a note from De La Cruz’s hit song and “Remember Me” by choosing this heartwarming tale on your next movie night. It truly is a beautiful experience — just remember to bring the tissues.

6. Inside Out

Growing up is difficult, but loving this movie isn’t! Riley, a young girl suddenly transplanted to urban San Francisco, is guided by the personified emotions of Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness. Forget simple emojis, you’ll fall in love with the complicated feelings of growing up…and out of childhood. Even though Riley experiences an existential crisis, the entire family will en-joy this move. You’ll never be filled with sadness (except during that one part we don’t talk about) when you watch this colorful, villain-free adventure.

5. Toy Story 3

It’s unusual to find a sequel on a “best of” list, but we’ve got the THIRD installment of a series marking the halfway point on our Top 10 Pixar Movies list! Released over a decade after the original Toy Story, the plot features all your favorite main characters and a whole host of charming new toys (Slinky Dog is still our favorite). Still hesitant to watch? Toy Story 3 is the second Pixar movie to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, and it grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

4. Finding Nemo

The story of two mismatched fish searching the ocean for a captured clownfish could have gone in two very different directions: it could have sunk to the ocean floor like an iron anchor, or it could have buoyed straight to the surface. Luckily for Pixar (and us), Nemo buoyed right to the center of our hearts! A perennial favorite among the young and old, Finding Nemo is the best selling DVD — OF ALL TIME. You’re almost there, just keep swimming through our list to find out the top 3 Pixar movies!

3. Up

Oh goodness! How could a movie that begins with the world’s saddest love story — without any words — rise to the top three of our list? The lovable and unexpectedly courageous duo of cranky widower Carl and precocious Wilderness Explorer Russell saves the day and wins our heart with an unexpected adventure. Up may be famous for — SQUIRREL!…oops, sorry about that. Up may be famous for an adventure that began with heartbreak, but it ends with an amazing unexpected family.

2. Toy Story 2

Bet you didn’t see this one coming! Toy Story 2 is not only a masterfully done sequel, it’s one of the best-animated films ever made. When Woody is stolen by a greedy toy collector, it’s up to Buzz Lightyear and the gang to save the day. Of course they save the day, no spoilers required, but you’ll love love love who they meet along the way. We have a major soft spot for Bullseye! You’ve got a friend in me, indeed!

1. Toy Story

Toy Story is not just our number one pick for Pixar movies, but we dare to declare it the most perfect animated film EVER. Yes, all three Toy Story movies made the list — it’s pretty incredible. You’ve got a friend in cowboy Woody, space ranger Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the lovable gang. Voiced by heavyweights Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Don Rickles, we can’t get enough of this charming movie. It was the first ever full length animated Pixar feature and it holds up even to this day. This movie kickstarted an animation revolution that has gone to infinity and beyond!
