Billy Joel’s not movin’ out just yet – it was just announced on Tuesday that the piano man is to receive the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in Washington in November. The award honors singers and songwriters who exemplify ” ‘the standard of excellence associated with George and Ira Gershwin.’ ”
This award is far from his first accolade. The artist has a shelf boasting of Grammy Awards for song of the year, record of the year, and album of the year. With that track record he may as well have been made ‘man of the year’ as well. The Gershwin Prize award will put Mr. Joel in the ranks with music legends Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, and more. That’s not bad company at all.
