Canine collectible: Soviet cosmo-dogs’ spacesuit sold for $18,000 at auction

The authentic spacesuit worn by one of the pair of the world-famous, first-ever dogs in space, Belka and Strelka, was sold at an auction on Saturday.

The space suits were sold for $18,000 on online auction website, Auctionata.  Woof.

Made by Russian manufacturer of spacecraft and space station components, RSC Energia, the suit allowed for “dogs to test the effects of low gravity and high-speed launches on living organisms”.  It’s a good thing the results came back positive, otherwise the outcome of this auction might have taken a turn for the worse.  Our furry friends, Belka and Strelka, returned to Earth safely and helped further future space travel.
