James Earl Jones explains why money talks.

James Earl Jones is one of the most iconic voices to ever grace Hollywood.

Though he’s an accomplished actor in his own right, most people remember James Earl Jones for his immediately recognizable baritone voice. He provided the voice for Darth Vader that would become a signature of the character – or heck, even the Star Wars franchise itself – for decades. He also played Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King, delivering some of the most memorable lines and speeches in Disney history. In other words, you’ve almost certainly heard him, even if you’ve never heard of him.

So when James Earl Jones tells you that coin collecting is a worthwhile hobby, you better listen to what he says.

James Earl Jones Money

That’s right, James Earl Jones is one of the most well known numismatists (read: coin collectors) in modern history. Though he’s long been name-dropped in numerous lists of celebrity coin collectors, he became a practical face for the hobby with the release of the documentary Money: History in Your Hands. Produced by the Professional Numismatists Guild in 2016, Money: History in Your Hands is an educational film that explains why money is both a great collectible and an irreplaceable piece of history. And of course, the entire 30 minute long program is hosted and narrated by James Earl Jones.

“Money is more than something to earn and spend,” James Earl Jones explains. “It’s something to collect and study. It can be great art, a lesson in geography, or a tale from history – and it’s always fun.”

Well, looks like James pretty much summed up everything I was going to say here. Tune in next week for another Celebrity Inventory!

I kid, I kid. But seriously, for anyone who would like to dive into the history of money while enjoying the silky smooth voice of James Earl Jones, Money: History in Your Hands is completely free to watch on Youtube. We’ve embedded it here for your viewing pleasure:

Now, I know I don’t need to explain to you why people like money. James Earl Jones has certainly collected a lot of it in his lifetime, seeing that his net worth is $45 million. But why collect money? In a world of comic books and action figures, what makes coins stand out?

To make a long story short, coins just make dang good collectibles. They’re tiny enough to fit in your pockets, they’re sturdy enough to survive even poor conditions, and there are so many different ones to hunt for. Seriously, even if you just limited your collection to U.S coins, you’d still have a ton of different ones to look for. Whether you’re collecting a series of coins, gathering a spread of international currencies, or just keeping all your spare change, there’s virtually no wrong way to collect coins. That’s right, coins have been packing the accessible appeal of Funko Pops for centuries before the vinyl toys were ever created!

Coins

We wish we could tell you more about James Earl Jones’ collection, but unfortunately there’s precious little information for us to go off of. We can only imagine it’s impressive, but our research didn’t uncover any hints of whether James Earl Jones collects limited edition Darth Vader coins or not. Still, James Earl Jones’ interest in the hobby is exactly what an aspiring collector would need to realize how collectible coins really are. Besides, what numismatist could possibly ask for a better spokesperson for their hobby?

Even if you believe money is the root of all evil, James Earl Jones makes a compelling case to come to the dark side.
