For this week’s Collector’s Spotlight, we are featuring Gemr user Clint Crockett from Colorado. Clint owns a massive array of Funko Pops and Amiibo. To see his collection, click here.
1. How did you first get into collecting?
Amiibo – My brother got me a few for my birthday in June of 2015. I started doing some research, and really got into collecting Amiibo due to the culture and fun of “hunting.”
2. Where do you usually go to find items to add to your collection?
Amiibo – I’ve gone everywhere! Online through Target and Game Stop seem to be where a lot of success came from. I did buy some with a friend on Craigslist. We call that the “Mega Haul” (32 New in Box North American edition Amiibo for $320). Vidfall.com has provided to be a great resource as well, especially as of late.
Pops! – Vidfall.com has been my favorite resource for these. I’m mostly looking for those currently available, and their theme events every week have peaked my interest. Just recently, I’ve started going after some of the exclusive to retail Pops, so Hot Topic, Gamestop, and Barnes and Noble have been added to the list of locations to spend more money on these adorable figures. I’ve also recently joined the Marvel Collector Corps boxes from Funko, and those have brought some fun pops as well!
3. Which item is your absolute favorite?
Amiibo – This is tough. I think have a few. My first print Villager is a favorite because he is so unique looking (all later prints changed) and I like knowing that. I also really like Meta Knight, Kirby, Little Mac, Link, Olimar, and 8-bit Classic Mario, But Villager has to be my absolute fave.
4. How much do you think your most valuable item is worth?
5. Would you ever consider selling your collection?
For the right price I would. I really like them, but my wife is not a fan (more for the space taken than the price). No plan to sell though.
6. Do you go to events where you can meet people who collect?
Just online, yes. Often I am on Vidfall.com who has an Amiibo event every Thursday and Pops! usually on Wednesdays, and I do a lot of interacting on Reddit and Twitter.
7. Do you think your collection will ever be “complete”?
Amiibo – I like to think so, since it is “up to date” now for the series I collect; I just have to keep up with them. But, there are some out there I am not pursuing, so totally complete? No…. but close.
8. Do your friends and co-workers know about your collectibles?
My friends and coworkers know some of the collecting I do (I have a few at work), but I do not think they really understand the extent. I have few friends who do this with me, and that makes it even more fun. My wife knows, but I haven’t persuaded her to join in… yet.
9. What is your “holy grail” item?
Amiibo- Has to be my 1st Print Villager and, right now, Gold Mario and Mega Yarn Yoshi (though I do not expect those to last much longer as they have to be available again someday) … Possibly my first print “Fire Emblem” characters as well.
