This week’s Collector’s Spotlight is a very special one as we are featuring one of our own, Phil Bergeron. Phil is our UI/UX Designer and has the largest collection out of everyone here at Gemr! To see his extensive collection of anime figures, comics and more, click here.
1. How did you first get into collecting?
I first got into collecting when I was a kid. I think my mom pretty much bought me every Dragonball Z figure that they sold at Toys R Us at the time. This really sparked my interest in collecting. From there I began to collect Marvel Legends figures with my allowance, and then I eventually got into wrestling which led to a quite respectable WWE figure collection. I have since lost a good majority of that collection in various moves unfortunately.
2. Where do you usually go to find items to add to your collection?
Usually when I’m looking to add things to one of my collections I go to Amazon. Generally their prices are agreeable, and they always have what I am looking for in stock.
3. Which item is your absolute favorite?
This is a tough question, I have a lot of different figures, and there a lot that I really love. If I had to choose though, I guess I would have to say that my favorite is probably my Bandai Chogokin Franky from One Piece. The sculpt is amazing, the accessories are really cool, and everything about the figure is perfect, and it is a great addition to rest of the Mugiwara crew that I have put together from SH Figuarts.
4. How much do you think your most valuable item is worth?
I think my most valuable figure is my SDCC Super Saiyan Gohan, it’s probably worth about $250 or so.
5. Would you ever consider selling your collection?
At this moment in time I probably wouldn’t sell any of my collections. They all mean too much to me right now. Maybe at some point I will.
6. Do you go to events where you can meet people who collect?
I’ve gone to a few events with Gemr, but besides that I’m pretty private in my collecting.
7. Do you think your collection will ever be “complete”?
I don’t think my collections will ever truly be complete. As long as they keep creating new figures for the various collections I have then I will always have something new to add.
8. Do your friends and co-workers know about your collectibles?
Most of my friends know about my collecting, I don’t really bring it up in conversation, but they eventually find out. I think my coworkers know, I keep a good portion of my figures on my desk at work.
9. What is your “holy grail” item?
I would say my “holy grail” item would be the SDCC Exclusive Orange Lantern Hal Jordan, I’ve been wanting it for awhile, but I haven’t yet found it for a good enough price.
