Making Sure you hit the Best Disney World Rides is a Big Deal
Ask any Disney World fan their tips and tricks to scoring rides on all their favorite attractions and you’ll get some great advice! Some of the best advice we’ve gotten through the years is: arrive at the park an hour early, strategize fast pass stations, and have a plan before heading out for the day. And always, always wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen and pack plenty of water — you’ll pay an arm and a leg to purchase water in the park!
Okay, tips to a good day at the most magical place in the world aside, we want to answer the most important question a park-bound fan can ask: What are THE rides you can’t miss out on at Disney World?
Well, if you ask Disney fans their favorite ride, you’ll get a ton of answers! Some people are thrill seekers and others are delighted by the slower paced attractions. After much debate, we’ve narrowed down the plentiful options to the top five. For the sake of this article, we are considering all the parks in the Florida Disney family as possible options. It was hard, grueling work, but someone had to do it!
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
We start our list at a sister park and we’re sticking to our guns. Caution! This ride is not for the faint of heart or the weak of stomach…you’re about to enter…The Twilight Zone! Legend has it, that way back in 1939, 5 unfortunate people disappeared forever from the elevator in the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Today, you can retrace their steps and visit the hotel, and, if you’re brave enough, enter the 5th dimension on this haunted ride.
Travel to the 13th floor and then plummet to your doom — just kidding, you won’t die (probably). Plummet to a frightfully good time! Even the ride up to the haunted 13th floor is not without ghostly figures and mysterious lights. While we love this ride, it’s not for everyone. Riders must be 40 inches tall and not afraid of ghosts or small spaces.
Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, a.k.a. the PeopleMover, is the perfect ride for getting out of the Florida sun and giving you aching feet a much-needed break! This ride is perfect for the whole family and doesn’t have any height restrictions so everyone can enjoy the breezy 10-minute ride. The ride is even narrated for your listening pleasure!
The best part, and perhaps most famous part of the ride, is the secret glimpse into Space Mountain. Or it could be the view of Tomorrowland rides. Or the highlight just might be that your four-person car is emissions-free because it’s entirely pulled by magnets. Whichever aspect of the ride appeals to you the most, it’s truly is a must when you visit Disney World, and it has been since 1975!
Avatar: Flight of Passage
Again, this one is in a sister park, but it is too good not to make our list! Avatar: Flight of Passage fulfills so many of our wildest dreams! The Animal Kingdom “4D” ride lets you experience a flight over Pandora on the back of a winged mountain banshee! Sadly, you may end up waiting in line for up to FOUR HOURS for a quick five-minute ride but we promise — it’s well worth the wait, even if you didn’t love the movie Avatar.
Thanks to incredible technology and Disney innovation, Flight of Passage is an unforgettable experience complete with the same sounds, smells (yup, we said smells) and sensations a Na’vi hunter would have aboard their bonded mount. Just between us… we’ve heard FastPass+ is the only way to go for this unforgettable ride.
Designed with the help of an actual astronaut, Space Mountain has been a Disney staple since it opened in January 1975. Space Mountain is a legend among rollercoasters, but it doesn’t even have super steep drops and, according to rollercoaster aficionados, it’s relatively low on the “thrill scale.”
What it does have going for it is that the ride takes place entirely in the dark. You’ll blast off into the unknown and explore a galactic world while dipping and swooping among the stars and other celestial bodies. The experience is truly unforgettable and will last a lifetime. Sit back and enjoy the 3-minute ride…but only if you’re 44 inches or taller.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Ahoy Mateys! Here we have a ride suitable for all ages and you don’t even have to be over 44 inches tall to enjoy the 9-minute cruise among pirates, privateers, and buccaneers! Can you answer the question: what came first, the ride or the movie? If you guessed ride, you’re correct!
Pirates of the Caribbean has been a beloved attraction at Disney World since 1973! As you cruise through the Old World, you’ll be serenaded by boisterous animatronic pirates singing the classic “Yo Ho, Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).” Get your sea legs ready because you’re in for a swashbuckling good time! Whether this is your first time or one of many trips, you’ll enjoy all the classic and soon to be classic rides on our list.
