Serious collectors showcase their amazing pieces apart, displayed, lit, and protected. I’m the other kind of collector. I like to use my treasures. I understand the importance of protecting historic items. But that is not why I collect. I collect things that move me, that are beautiful, that have patina, history, glorious workmanship...and that I can use. And I like using serving trays. A lot. Mine tend to be heavy silver, either timelessly simple, or fabulously ornate. I also have a bit of a thing about less-floral antique black toleware trays. I serve coffee on them, use them on ottomans...collect them back from everywhere they end up in my home, and use them again. Collections personalize a home, make it non-standard. They show imagination and quirkiness. I am big on quirk. Make your every day wonderful by using your treasures. Display them for sure, but get them out down and use them!
