I try to keep my content original, i.e. photos I've taken or collages I've put together to correlate to piece I've written (Recommendations and First Appearance Friday) but how would you feel if I shared panels or pages from comics with a joke or observation? These would be updated only not added to collections. I'd love your input!

Hello there Gemr Comics! It's Friday and time to (finally) deliver on my promise to @yoshi420 with a big First Appearance Friday. Yep, it's the regenerating degenerate, the Merc with a Mouth: Deadpool! Aka Wade Wilson (nice alliteration there). Deadpool was created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld and first appears as a villain in New Mutants #98. Origins Caveat - Over the years Deadpool has had dozens of origins and retcons and as such no one really knows the true origins and identity of Wade Wilson, this was an intentional decision on the part of the creators. With that in mind: Deadpool was created as part of the same programme as Wolverine (Weapon X). Wade suffering from Cancer underwent the treatment in the hopes of a cure, however the cancer was exacerbated to the point that his cells are regenerated at an accelerated rate and his entire body is essentially tumours. The cancer and cellular regeneration has affected Wade's mental state, he is at times psychotic, suffers from voices in his head and often breaks the fourth wall and talks to readers. This has made him somewhat abrasive and disliked by most of the Marvel universe. In terms of powers and abilities, before undergoing the treatment Wade was a proficient assassin/military personnel. So he is skilled in all weapon types and martial arts. From his treatment he now has superhuman strength and agility as well as insane regenerative ability, he can regenerate limbs, body, brain tissue with ease. In terms of reading suggestions, my personal favourite is the Deadpool Volume. 1 issues #1-#36, the entire Danny Way run and the first run written by Gerry Duggan and the very latest run by Skottie Young. The original run is a darker version of Deadpool who is humourous but still funny. In later years he has become somewhat of a parody of himself and a catchphrase machine "Chimichangas!". For key issues check out: - New Mutants #98 (First Appearance) - X-Force #2 (Second Appearance) - Deadpool #1 1998 (First ongoing series) Have a good weekend and as always remember to support your Local Comic Store! - Comic Nex
