About Me

Eclectic collector of whatever tickles my fancy, for as long as I can remember. I have been drawn to horror collectibles since the days of McFarlane's Movie Maniacs, but any item from any genre that i find interesting or unusual is more than welcome to sit on my shelves. I am still transported right back to my childhood whenever i open a new toy.

Uploads have slowed to slower than a snail's pace since my man cave was dismantled and turned into a guestroom, hopefully temporarily. But I have some goodies in the pipeline, including the ShoutFactory SDCC Howling werewolf thanks to @thecarleebaker, a 1/6 custom Uncle Fester from @onescustomsfigures, a 1/4 scale Crypt Keeper, a "Bob" Myers by Michael Cortez plus the usual Neca offerings. I also have some Krites and Krite eggs from Critters (1/6 and 1/12 scale) en route from Patim Studios, so i figured i would bash a barn floor base for them, inbetween bouts of staring at the space where my collection used to be and gearing up for silly season at work :-) It's a little rough around the edges but i'll clean them up once the bonding agent has sufficiently stuck everything in place. Each piece of straw is cut to scale from the real thing and the hen eggs are made from super sculpey.

When Neca released their ultimate classic Pennywise, i remember thinking "those sculpted trousers look silly". Then i thought "if ever a character was crying out for the retro-clothed treatment this is it". Well, beep beep. Retro clothed classic Pennywise by Neca :-)

I'm not sure how I feel about these. The controversy with how they look exactly like the style of art from an artist who has been doing this for years, just a little too cloudy of an issue for me to buy into it yet. I don't know if NECA ever addressed those concerns from ToyFair.

Yes, i remember the hubbub when the line was first announced. I'm not sure if the artist you're referring to made comment himself or if it was just his fan club that were up in arms. I do recall that many illustrators chimed in with links to their own "toon horror" images (some in national newspapers) which pre-dated _that_ artists work by 10, 15, 20 years and longer, and proved that he was hardly a pioneer of cartoon horror. When you're using the Hanna-Barbera style as a template, Jason Voorhees is always going to look like Frankenstein's monster with a hockey mask and machete. Anyways, the line isn't for everyone. I may pick up one or two characters but i won't be elbowing kids out of the way to get them 😁

Just received confirmation that my Quint from Jaws statuette is en route. This guy is around 5 inches tall from hat to toe and comes with a shark jaw base. I ordered three barrels too, because, well, "not with three he can't" 😁 I think 20 figures were cast in total, they will arrive unpainted, and they all sold out. BUT, the maker is having some extras pewter-plated and finished in brass or bronze.

Paddington Voorhees update. Primed the mask that i sculpted, added real leather straps with magnetic snap fastenings, painted the chevrons, then weathered the whole thing. Weathering the duffel coat, hat and suit case is next. The Paddington Bear I had as a kid wore yellow Wellington boots, so i will have to sculpt those onto his legs. I will have to dremel off his current right hand and sculpt a new one too, because it just isn't built to hold a mache...  See More

I bought this one-sixth scale Paddington Bear ("Peruvian Bear" by Toy City) from TNS Figures, but it arrived broken and they didn't have the courtesy to respond to my six emails asking for a return-and-replacement. So, I decided to make a Paddington Voorhees with it. I've sculpted the mask, added magnets for snaps and leather straps, and marked the holes roughly with a ball tool ready to drill through. The mask will need painting, then I'll have a go ...  See More

That’s a pretty creative way of dealing with a crap situation. I dig it! I would totally go through with the project though, I mean you out in time to plan and you have the bits. If you’re not just going to fix him up then yeah, turn him into something unique. I love that it’s horror items you’re thinking of, obviously.

They showed a retro-clothed Sam at ToyFair in Feb'. I didn't notice an Ultimate Sam in their booth. I could've missed it though: blinded by goodness 😁

This is the original Sam figure with the two heads, two jack-0-lanterns, lollipop, candy bar, and the sack with the base. This picture doesn't show the base or most of the accessories. I can't imagine what they would include in an Ultimate figure. Anyway, I have both of these, the original and the re-release without the accessories. I don't know that they would put out an ultimate, but maybe. I do know we know more Sam is coming though.

Nah. Different figure entirely. This new figure -- ultimate or not -- has an updated sculpt, better proportions, a larger head and, above all, limb articulation. The original release was vitrually a statue 😁

Neca have announced an SDCC exclusive version of their 2017 Pennywise. IT (lol) will be painted in greyscale to give an etched effect, based on the crazy clown's appearance in an engraving of the Derry town charter. Limited stock will be available via the annual loony lottery on their website before SDCC. But i'll be sure to miss out. Again:-)

Neca have announced their Ultimate Crooked Man from The Conjuring 2 will be released in September (ish?) He stands an impressive 9-inches tall and comes with three head sculpts, a removable hat, a zoetrope and an umbrella. But he still isn't as scary as the Crooked Man from his own movie :-)

Neca have announced that Candyman will be joining the ranks of their retro-clothed line. Sculpted by the amazingly talented Trevor Grove, Candyman will include two heads, an attachable “bee swarm” chest and an elaborate coat that would make any Mac Daddy proud. Eta: November 2019.
